Healthy Homes

aa-1.jpg

Mr Humphreys is a goat. He has no electronics in him whatsoever, and he can tell you if your room is too cold or too humid.

His nose turns blue when the temperature drops. His horns stand straight up when the air gets damp. The nose uses thermochromic paint. The horns are made from a hygroscopic material that reacts to moisture. No batteries, no wires, no apps. Just chemistry.

We made him for ANZ as part of their Healthy Homes promotion. His body is FSC-certified New Zealand pine. His coat is hand-knitted from New Zealand Merino yarn. We worked with charities to help with the knitting, sourced materials from three or four different countries for the specialised bits, and spent a long time on the packaging because strapping a spherical goat into a box without snapping his horns was its own engineering problem. They're so delicate that even touching the side of the box under their own spring tension can break them.

One of the most technically complex projects we've done. Took ages. Worth every minute.
